Hans K. Van Delden is an advisor to executives in the consumer products, retail, and media industries for Strategy&, PwC’s strategy consulting group. Based in Dallas, he is a principal with PwC U.S. He focuses on marketing, sales and trade promotion effectiveness.

He has extensive expertise formulating IT strategies, diagnosing major system implementations, and leading the design and implementation of data-intensive analytical business applications.

He has substantial international experience as well, having worked in 10 countries across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas.

Examples of key engagements with the firm include:

  • Leading four major transformations to improve the effectiveness of client pricing and merchandising activities through the application of advanced decision support analytics
  • Leading the effort to develop a customer retention strategy for a national wireless carrier, including conducting a root cause analysis and quantifying the underlying drivers of churn using sophisticated analytical techniques
  • Developing a global technological strategy for a segment of a large retailer’s IT portfolio
  • Working with a major European bank during a post-merger integration phase to design an IT architecture for an advanced marketing system
  • Working with a major Asian bank at the center of the Asian financial crisis to design and establish a new credit risk management capability

He has been honored with two Professional Excellence Awards (PEAs)—Strategy&'s highest honor for outstanding client service—for his contributions and those of his team in support of Bangkok Bank and the Mobil Oil Corporation.

Mr. Van Delden holds an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and four other degrees, also from MIT: an M.S. in civil engineering and three B.A.s in management, mathematics, and civil engineering. He earned all five degrees in five years.

In 1995, he was also MIT’s sole Rhodes Scholar candidate and a Texas Rhodes Scholar finalist.

Prior professional experience includes employment at the United Services Automobile Association.
